THE RAIL SPLITTER FACT SHEET

WHO ARE WE?

Named after Abraham Lincoln, The "Rail Splitter" organization is an association of historians, collectors, and dealers interested in Abraham Lincoln and the material culture of that period. Lincoln's "Rail Splitter" nickname originated from his youthful activities on the frontier and later became the central motif for his 1860 presidential campaign. Among their many activities The Rail Splitter publishes a quarterly journal, conducts annual auctions of Lincolniana and Civil War memorabilia, and sponsors exhibits and tours in addition to assisting the public in the appraisal, authentication, and sale of related items. The Rail Splitter brings history alive by bringing people back in time. As Editor of The Rail Splitter Journal Donald Ackerman stated, "We are not strictly buyers and sellers of historical Americana, but students of history.  By studying and preserving new discoveries, we help to write history."
